EAA Chapter @ 409 Welcome

&

Basic Information

 Updated 13 Jul 2009

Thank you for your recent interest in our EAA Chapter #409, or in joining/ rejoining our group.

EAA Chapter #409 began in the Ottumwa, IA area in Jan 1972, with members from a large radius. Today we have 49 paid members, including several who advertise a business or service.

Annual dues are $20 for regular members, & $30 for advertising members. For protection under the insurance plan from the National EAA, we need to have all participating members belong to the National EAA. Guests are always welcome at our meetings.

Our meetings are normally held at 2:00 pm on the second Sunday of each month. Dates are revised to avoid Mother’s day and for our December Christmas party. We try to meet at airports, or at members who have their own private airstrips. Anyone who flies into a member’s private airstrip does so at their own risk. We always have a great time, & plenty of tasty treats to eat. Sometimes we have programs, but the primary emphasis is on flying, discussing projects, giving rides, and Hangar Flying.

Seven of our members have their own grass airstrips. They are located throughout the area, from S. of Montezuma to W. of Centerville, to E of Corydon, to W. of Farson. Fly in at your own risk, but you are always welcome with prior contact.

Many of our members have a lot of practical experience. Some are A. & P. mechanics. Some are pilot instructors. Several have built or rebuilt Home-Built airplanes. Among our members, we can usually find/ provide tools and experience to do most any job that is required to build a Home-Built Airplane. This includes Steel Tube Structures, Fabric Covering, Aluminum construction & Welding, Weight & Balance, and much more. Most members are willing to advise/ help with your building project.

We are pleased that you have shown interest, or recently joined/ rejoined our local EAA Chapter. For those who have shown interest, but have not yet joined our local chapter, we invite you to join the National EAA [if you are not already a member] and come look us over. We will send our monthly newsletter for a few months, including details of upcoming events.

Hope to hear from you soon!
